The adorable sun bear is recognizable for its characteristic cream coloured horseshoe mark on its chest and it's the smallest bear species in the world. The Bornean subspecies which is found in Sabah is endemic to Borneo. Sadly these guys are classified as vulnerable under the IUCN Red List and are therefore protected in the state. If you're vacationing in Sandakan, do head over to the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn more about them and to see some of the rescued bears there. This bookmark features one of the residents at the centre.
